El presidente Luis Abinader, al condecorar con la Orden al mérito de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella, a la embajadora de Estados Unidos en el país, Robin Bernstein, destacó este martes sus cualidades diplomáticas y profesionales, a la que calificó como una amiga de la República Dominicana.
Dijo que la diplomática encaminó una gestión adornada de valores, y que antes de su confirmación como embajadora de los Estados Unidos de América en el país, Bernstein se desempeñó como presidenta y directora de Richard S. Bernstein y Asociados, así como vicepresidenta y directora de Rizbur, ambas compañías ubicadas en West Palm Beach, Florida.
Abinader resaltó que su experiencia de 4 décadas en el área empresarial, el sector gubernamental y las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, fueron el escenario idóneo para demostrar no sólo su exitoso liderazgo en los negocios, sino también su sentido de la responsabilidad social y el compromiso con las mejores causas de su país.
Precisó que “su contacto y vinculación permanente en una variedad de sectores, tales como el empresarial, el mundo político y las asociaciones sin fines de lucro, le permitieron realizar contribuciones importantes en campos como la educación, la mitigación de desastres y el empoderamiento de las mujeres”.
Al valorar la gestión de la señora Bernstein, el presidente Abinader precisó que desde su confirmación el 7 de marzo de 2018, la embajadora desarrolló su plan de trabajo en el marco de las relaciones bilaterales domínico-estadounidenses, las que se fundamentaron en iniciativas como el crecimiento de las oportunidades comerciales, la promoción de políticas públicas en favor de un Estado de derecho, el fortalecimiento de la democracia y el fomento de la prosperidad entre ambas naciones.
Expuso que por intermediación de la embajadora, el gobierno norteamericano, brindó apoyo en temas tan importantes para la República Dominicana como la seguridad, la lucha contra el crimen organizado transnacional, el desarrollo humano, la cooperación educativa en sectores estratégicos para el desarrollo nacional y la protección de los derechos humanos.
Recordó que a través de esa cooperación, Estados Unidos, por medio de la Agencia para el Desarrollo Internacional, donó ventiladores y 2 hospitales móviles, demostrando el compromiso de ese país para apoyar al gobierno en la lucha contra el coronavirus y una muestra fehaciente de las sólidas relaciones entre ambos Estados.
El mandatario dijo que en el escenario de la nueva política exterior del cambio, ha sido enfático en reiterar que los Estados Unidos de América, constituye el principal socio comercial y aliado estratégico.
Afirmó que “queremos reconocer los buenos oficios de la embajadora Bernstein en la firma del memorando de entendimiento entre los Estados Unidos y la República Dominicana con el fin de colaborar en la movilización de inversiones en energía, turismo y otros proyectos de infraestructura que fortalecerán las principales industrias, crearán puestos de trabajo y reforzarán las relaciones entre ambas naciones.
La condecoración fue otorgada por el presidente Abinader, mediante el decreto 741-20.
