A propósito de celebrarse este 16 de octubre el “Día Mundial de la Alimentación”, el Movimiento Campesinos de Trabajadores de las Comunidades (MCCU), advirtió que la falta de apoyo a pequeños y medianos productores podría provocar escasez de alimentos de productos básicos de la canasta familiar.
El MCCU explicó que República Dominicana posee miles de tareas de tierras hábiles para la producción de alimentos de ciclo corto y largo, pero que, la falta de panificación agropecuaria no permite la siembra a gran escala en diferentes provincias.
La secretaria general del MCCU, Justina Santana, Alejandro García, de organizaciones; Felipe Crisóstomo, de Finanza; Wendy Robles, secretaria de Acta; y Luis David Moreno, secretario de la Juventud, respectivamente, pusieron como ejemplo las provincias de Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, Hato Mayor y Duarte cuentan con tierra suficiente para la producción de alimentos para el consumo local y de exportación.
Los dirigentes del MCCU advirtieron que si Gobierno, no toma en cuenta a los pequeños productores, a través del Ministerio de Agricultura, el país podría verse afectado por falta de alimento en los próximos meses.
Finalmente, el MCUU pidió al presidente Luis Abinader realizar encuentro con los pequeños y medianos productores, a fin de lograr un programa de incentivo a la producción agrícola nacional para evitar que en República Dominicana haya escasez de alimentos en el futuro inmediato.
