La infraestructura, en la cual se invertirán 50.2 millones de pesos, tendrá capacidad para tratar 150 LPS, impactando de manera favorable a 160 mil personas de los sectores Enriquillo, Baitoita, Pueblo Nuevo, Villa Estela, Las Flores, Camboya y Savica, del municipio cabecera, entre otros.
El proyecto generará más de 500 empleos directos e indirectos, que permitirán dinamizar la economía de las familias barahoneras, conforme a la visión del presidente Luis Abinader.
Durante su intervención, Arnaud expresó preocupación porque en la actualidad las aguas negras están siendo descargadas al mar, contaminando el medio ambiente y afectando la salud de las personas del municipio, además del turismo de la zona.
El funcionario de la institución rectora del agua potable y saneamiento, indicó que tan pronto asumió la dirección de la entidad se percató del desastre existente en la mayoría de los sistemas, por lo que, junto a su equipo técnico, puso en marcha el Plan Nacional de Rescate de las Instalaciones del INAPA.
El alcalde de Barahona, Milton Fernández, agradeció el apoyo de Arnaud, de quien dijo ha priorizado esta demarcación.
De igual forma, la gobernadora Diones Maribel González y el diputado Moisés Ayala ponderaron la importancia de la obra.
A principios de este año, se publicó la licitación, cumpliendo con las normas de transparencia dispuestas por la ley.
En la actividad participaron autoridades políticas y religiosas, así como representantes de la sociedad civil, quienes valoraron el trabajo que viene realizando el INAPA, bajo la gestión de Wellington Arnaud, para garantizar el acceso de los dominicanos a agua potable y saneamiento adecuado.
En el evento, por el INAPA estuvieron presentes, los subdirectores Jabib Suárez y Joseph Pilier; los directores de Fiscalización y Supervisión de Obras, Miguel Angel Matos; de Operaciones, Luis José Popa, y José Aybar, de Ingeniería, entre otros.
