Santo Domingo, D.N. – El Banco Popular Dominicano se mantiene como el primer banco dominicano en la lista de los 1,000 mejores bancos del mundo, a una distancia de 148 posiciones de su próximo par dominicano más cercano en este índice, elaborado por la prestigiosa revista The Banker, del grupo editorial Financial Times.

La entidad bancaria se ubicó este año en la posición 783 de la clasificación, la cual evalúa a los bancos de todos los continentes tomando como criterio principal su fortaleza financiera, medida a través del Tier 1 Capital, un indicador bajo el marco regulatorio de las normas de Basilea, que indica la capacidad del banco de respaldar a sus clientes.

En adición, la publicación toma en cuenta otros criterios como tamaño de los activos y el retorno sobre estos, las ganancias antes de impuestos o las ratios de solvencia y liquidez, entre otras variables.

Fue en 2016 cuando el Popular fue incluido por primera vez en este selecto club de las principales entidades bancarias en el mundo. Recientemente, la revista The Banker reconoció el liderazgo regional del Popular al incluirlo en su clasificación de «Los 30 Mejores Bancos del Caribe 2022».

Crecimiento junto a la recuperación

En su abordaje editorial, la revista The Banker indica que el crecimiento de los bancos que entran a este ranking ocurre en conjunto con el proceso de recuperación de las economías de las naciones, las cuales se enfrentan a un incremento de la incertidumbre este año, ocasionado por las cuestiones geopolíticas que imperan actualmente.

En torno a la posición privilegiada que el Banco Popular tiene en este listado de las 1,000 mejores entidades financieras del mundo, el señor Christopher Paniagua, presidente ejecutivo, subrayó el orgullo de la institución al encabezar de nuevo esta clasificación, lo cual “evidencia la confianza y lealtad de nuestros clientes en esta institución, a quienes les reiteramos nuestra disposición de continuar acompañándoles en sus proyectos de vida y empresariales”, dijo.

“Mantendremos nuestro liderazgo en el sector de los servicios financieros, implementando nuevas tecnologías, que ofrezcan soluciones para ampliar el valor agregado que aportamos a nuestros clientes, siempre desde una perspectiva de sostenibilidad”, indicó el presidente ejecutivo del Popular.
