José Rafael Abinader Wasaf fue un político, empresario y escritor dominicano. En el 2do aniversario se su fallecimiento
Nació el 2 de marzo de 1929 en el municipio de Tamboril en Santiago de los Caballeros.
Primeros años
Hijo de José S. Abinader, inmigrante libanes que llegó a la República Dominicana por razones familiares y de la montecristeña Ester Wasaf, cuyos padres también eran originarios del Líbano.
Su padre era un abogado graduado de la Universidad de Beirut, al llegar a la isla no tuvo problemas económicos hasta la crisis mundial de 1929, que conforme a la semblanza publicada en un diario nacional, lo dejó en las ruinas.
José Rafael Abinader creció en un hogar humilde en la comunidad cibaeña que lo vio nacer, asistió a la Escuela Pública de Tamboril hasta cumplir los nueve años de edad, luego su familia se trasladó a Santiago, donde continuó sus estudios y empezó a hacer deportes.
Concluyó la secundaria a temprana edad y finalizó el bachillerato en la Escuela Normal Ulises Francisco, donde obtuvo los diplomas en Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas y Filosofía y Letras.
Asimismo, recibió certificados en mecanografía y contabilidad, en la Academia Santiago del profesor Antonio Cuello, donde llegó a formar parte del cuerpo magisterial de dicho centro docente.
Estudios
Para el año 1956, José Rafael Abinader recibe el título de doctor en derecho, terminando sus estudios con calificaciones sobresalientes en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).
Al concluir su formación universitaria se traslada a México y Chile en busca de aumentar sus aptitudes profesionales y participa en seminarios, charlas, conferencias y eventos internacionales sobre el desarrollo económico.
Solicita una beca de estudio a la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) y parte a Brasil a estudiar administración pública, finanzas y presupuesto, en la Escuela de Administración Pública del país sudamericano.
Trabajo
Tras la finalización de su posgrado, José Rafael Abinader regresa al país e ingresa a su alma mater, la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo a impartir docencia en la cátedra de economía.
Su elogiada labor profesional le permitió desempeñar diversos cargos en la administración pública, entre ellos, secretario y vice-ministro de Finanzas hoy (Ministerio de Hacienda), administrador general de Bienes Nacionales y director general de Impuesto sobre la Renta.
También ocupó la vicerrectoría Administrativa de la UASD, en cuya gestión se logró que se le asigne un presupuesto de medio millón de pesos a la primada de América y se creó el Comedor Económico, el Centro de Cómputos, los Laboratorios de Agronomía e Ingeniería y el Hospital Clínico Veterinario.
En el año 1966 junto a un grupo de maestros constituye la Universidad Dominicana Organización y Método (O&M), centro de estudios privado que en 54 años ha sido la madre nutricia de más de cincuenta mil profesionales de diferentes áreas del saber. Cita la reseña histórica de la academia.
Además fue contralor General de la República, posición ofrecida por el presidente Antonio Guzmán en 1979, donde actuó como representante del estado en la negociación para que la empresa Gulf y Western repusiera al país 39 millones de pesos.
En el ámbito político
José Rafael Abinader Wasaf incursiona en la actividad política al concluir la tiranía de Rafael Leónidas Trujillo en 1961, según datos periodísticos de nuestros archivos; fue llevado a la casa de Juan Bosch, fundador del Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), por el dirigente Chichi Eusebio y allí se reúne con José Francisco Peña Gómez, Yeara Nasser y otros jóvenes que se adhirieron al pensamiento político de dicha organización.
Este destacado político fue vicepresidente y miembro del Comité Ejecutivo Nacional (CEN), del PRD y fundador de la Alianza Social Demócrata (ASD), hoy Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM), entidad política que desde sus inicios estuvo ligada al partido del “jacho prendío”.
Abinader fue candidato a la presidencia de la República en tres ocasiones, obteniendo resultados desfavorables, en 1982, lo hizo con la Alianza Social Demócrata; para 1990 aspiró a dirigir la nación con el Partido Acción Constitucional (PAC) y nuevamente en 1996 con la ASD.
Por otra parte, José Rafael Abinader fue senador por la provincia de Santiago de los Caballeros en el período legislativo 1998-2002, como miembro del Partido Revolucionario Dominicano.
Pasión por la escritura
José Rafael Abinader fue un apasionado de la literatura, es el autor de las obras, Ideas Económicas y Sociales; Desarrollo Económico y Social de la República Dominicana, con la que ganó el primer premio de los Juegos Florales Hispano-Dominicanos; Comentarios Acerca del Ahorro y El impuesto sobre Beneficios, Normas de Aplicación.
También llegó a tener una columna en uno de los diarios de circulación nacional donde exponía su parecer sobre asuntos de la actualidad.
Don José R. Abinader falleció por complicaciones de salud el 4 de noviembre del 2018.
