Instituto Dermatológico informa la escabiasis tiene cura y pide a la población no alarmarse

Víctor Pou, director del Instituto Dermatológico y Cirugía de Piel Dr. Huberto Bogaert Díaz,  admitió este lunes que ante la no presencia de casos en República Dominicana de afecciones cutáneas reportadas en Haití, hasta el momento se trata solo de conjeturas que llevan a creer que son casos de sarna, escabiasis o escabiosis, como también se le conoce.

“Son conjeturas y nosotros no trabajamos con conjeturas… Si es escabiasis, no hay por qué temer”, afirmó el especialista de la piel en una rueda de prensa.

“No tenemos la seguridad de qué enfermedad ellos tienen. Hasta que no tengamos un diagnóstico definitivo no podemos afirmar o negar de qué se trata. Al día de hoy no sabemos de qué se trata. Y digo no sabemos, porque no tenemos casos que nos hayan llegado al territorio dominicano”, dijo el galeno en un llamado a evitar el pánico.

“Lo primero que uno quiere es que la población no se alarme, nosotros vemos escabiasis en la institución el año entero, es una enfermedad que se trata, se controla y se cura”, aseguró Pou.

 “La escabiasis es producida por un ácaro, sarcoptes scabiei var hominis, un animalito microscópico que vive en la piel humana. La hembra pone entre tres y cuatro huevos de noche, porque no le gusta la luz, hace unos surcos y ahí se produce la picazón. La vida promedio de un ácaro puede ser de uno a dos meses”, abundó el doctor.

Pou advirtió que el problema de la sarna está no tanto en el hacinamiento sino en las condiciones de higiene, de ahí la importancia de tener acceso a agua limpia y fresca, bañarse con la frecuencia necesaria y mantener un lavado adecuado de manos.

Por saludar a una persona no habrá contagio, “debe ser algo continuo”. El doctor citó el ejemplo de una madre que cargue a su bebé en varios momentos del día, ahí si hay probabilidad de contagio.

“Es muy difícil para nosotros poder tener al día de hoy un diagnóstico y les agradecemos a las autoridades que si les llegan casos nos los envíen, ya que nosotros tenemos cómo hacer el diagnóstico y podemos hacer biopsias y raspados de la piel para ver qué está pasando”, aseguró.

El dermatólogo dijo que los diagnósticos de escabiosis van a depender de la época del año, sobre todo en verano, que es cuando más casos ocurren. En una semana se ven entre tres y cinco casos diariamente de escabiasis, presentándose especialmente en niños, aunque también pueden presentarse pacientes adultos.

“No todo lo que pica en la piel es escabiasis” advirtió el galeno. De ahí la importancia de no automedicarse y acercarse a su médico dermatólogo para que le recete un tratamiento adecuado y le explique el método de aplicación para que sea efectivo.

“Los próximos días son los que van a decidir y al final sabremos de qué se trata”, puntualizó el especialista.

No es lepra

Ante la duda partiendo de algunas imágenes compartidas en redes sociales sobre si podían ser casos de lepra, el Instituto Dermatológico certifica que la lepra es una enfermedad completamente diferente a la escabiasis, no hay manera de confundirlas.

“La escabiasis tiene prurito, comezón insoportable, que no te deja ni dormir de noche. La lepra es una enfermedad donde no hay dolor, no hay comenzón. En la mancha de lepra yo toco y el paciente no siente que lo estoy tocando”, explicó el doctor Juan Periche, director del Programa Nacional de Lepra.

Periche testificó que queda “completamente descartado” que los casos reportados en Haití se traten de lepra, precisamente, por el factor diferenciador del prurito.
