 Frank Prats entró en una cancha de baloncesto por primera vez en el año de 1971. Dos años después ya hacía su debut en la selección nacional que participó en el Centrobasket de 1973 en Puerto Rico.

Un expelotero que llegó a jugar voleibol a nivel presuperior, residía en el Ensanche La Fe cuando fue convidado por Dieter y Gerardo, dos vecinos alemanes que formaban parte del equipo del Colegio Loyola.

Sus vecinos conocían la gran capacidad de salto que tenía “Franchy”, ya que lo habían visto jugando voleibol.

Un año después (1972) por recomendación de Roosevelt Comarazamy, un exintegrante de la selección nacional, es reclutado por Alejandro Tejeda, del club Naco, e incluido en el denominado proyecto Operación Altura, organizado para buscar a los muchachos altos con actitudes para el deporte del aro y el balón.

Como a la velocidad de un rayo, ya Prats estaba jugando en la categoría A – ya que no existía el superior – en el Auditorio Eugenio María de Hostos con apenas un año de experiencia y sin haber nunca jugado en las categorías menores.

Integró la selección nacional para los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de Santo Domingo en 1974 y logró colar ocho tantos en el partido frente a Cuba.

Al año siguiente volvió a vestir la camiseta con las iniciales de RD en el Centrobasket de 1975, también en Santo Domingo.

Marcó 10 puntos en una cómoda victoria sobre Haití, pero lo que más recordó fue su enfrentamiento con Raúl Palma, el hombre fuerte de México, a quien ayudó a defender.

República Dominicana venció a los mexicanos 74-71 para la que fue la primera victoria en la historia del basket dominicano ante sus oponentes de América del Norte.

Fue parte del histórico equipo ganador de la medalla de oro en el Centrobasket de Panamá en 1977. Coló 15 puntos en la derrota en la fase preliminar ante los anfitriones.

Pero en el partido que decidió el título para los criollos, una decisión 92-91 sobre los dueños de casa, se fue hasta los 20 tantos con los que empató en el liderato de los dominicanos.

En 1978 estuvo con el equipo nacional ganador de la medalla de bronce en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe en Medellín, Colombia.

Ese mismo año asistió al Campeonato Mundial efectuado en Manila, Filipinas. Su promedio ofensivo fue de 12.4 tantos por encuentro en siete desafíos.

Fue el líder anotador con un total de 18 puntos en una cerrada derrota 74-72 ante Australia; marcó 16 en el triunfo sobre Corea del Sur; encestó 14 en un revés contra China; tuvo 12 tantos ante Senegal y Puerto Rico, respectivamente.

Los Panamericanos de 1979, en Puerto Rico, fueron su próxima parada en el equipo nacional, seguido por el Centrobasket de 1981 también en Puerto Rico.

En el último certamen encestó 19 tantos frente a los boricuas, liderando a la selección, marcó 17 contra Islas Vírgenes, 15 versus Haití y 14 contra Venezuela.

También estuvo con el uniforme tricolor en los Panamericanos de 1983, en Caracas, Venezuela y el Centrobasket de 1985 en México.

Su retiro del equipo nacional se produjo en el Centrobasket de 1987 celebrado en Santo Domingo.

Prats, que inició su carrera como un jugador de espaldas al aro, terminó, gracias al desarrollo de un buen tiro de media y hasta de larga distancia, extendiendo su carrera gracias a una sugerencia del dirigente Pedro David Curiel (Pututi).

Su habilidad para jugar al baloncesto le abrió la puerta a la educación a través de las becas que consiguió primero para la secundaria en los colegios San Judas Tadeo y La Salle, y después a nivel universitario en la UNPHU y APEC, en las que estudió ingeniería y administración de empresas.

El hijo de un pagador en el muelle de Santo Domingo Oriental, Prats nació en la clínica Chan Aquino y pasó su niñez y adolescencia entre Villa Duarte, San Antón y el Ensanche La Fe.

En el baloncesto superior distrital vio acción durante 15 temporadas con Naco, Astros y San Carlos.

Fue integrante de los equipos campeones de San Carlos en 1987 y 1988.

Tras ese año se retiró y pasó a dirigir –primero que utilizó saco y corbata en el Palacio de los Deportes–.

Con Los Prados llegó hasta la final en 1989 antes de perder ante los propios sancarleños.

En 205 partidos terminó con promedio de 14.0 puntos por partido con un 53 por ciento en tiros de campo, además de 1,196 rebotes (5.8 rpj).

Su apoyo de «El Ñoño» fue una de las tantas creaciones del narrador Frank Kranwinkel, pero la razón no era precisamente que temiera enfrentar a sus rivales debajo del canasto ya que su juego era todo lo contrario.

Era que el también exjugador y exselección nacional, como su vecino en San Antón, conocía de las debilidades culinarias de Franchy a quien su madre siempre tenía que prepararle los alimentos como él quería.

En el interior del país también jugó para los clubes Higüeral, en La Romana, que se coronó campeón en 1981; Chola, de San Pedro de Macorís. Además fue dirigente de los equipos GUG, de Santiago; en el Distrito Nacional, de San Carlos, Calero y los Prados; en San Cristóbal, de Los Buitres, y en San Pedro de Macorís, del Centro. En 2014 laboró como gerente general de los Cañeros del Este en la Liga Nacional de Baloncesto (LNB).

Frank Adolfo Prats Ceara fue propietario de una excelente carrera como baloncestista, que lo llevó a la inmortalidad deportiva en 2003; productor y conductor de programas de radio y televisión, y a la vez empleado privado.

Nació el 16 de septiembre de 1954, producto de la unión de los señores Francisco Prats y Amparo Ceara.

Estuvo casado con la señora Bettina Morey Haché con la cual procreó a sus hijos Francisco Alejandro (Alex) Prats, uno de los principales bolicheros del país, y Laura Amelia.
