Beneficiarán a estudiantes de Santo Domingo y Dajabón
Santo Domingo, D.N. – El Banco Popular Dominicano informó sobre la ampliación de su programa de becas Excelencia Popular con 20 nuevas plazas para estudiantes meritorios de escasos recursos que deseen realizar estudios en el Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA), en Santo Domingo, y en el Instituto Tecnológico San Ignacio de Loyola (ITESIL), en Dajabón.
El Banco Popular firmó sendos acuerdos con estas dos instituciones académicas, extendiendo con ello el impacto social de este programa de becas, que es el más amplio del sistema financiero.
Con el ITLA, que ya contaba con 10 becas vinculadas al programa, el Popular estableció facilitar ayudas financieras correspondientes a otras 10 nuevas becas, que se destinarán a beneficiar a mujeres que quieran cursar las carreras de redes de información, desarrollo de software, multimedia, mecatrónica y seguridad informática, profesiones donde la cuota femenina suele ser menor.

Por su parte, el ITESIL, en Dajabón, se incorpora como un nuevo aliado a Excelencia Popular. Con esta institución educativa el Popular acordó brindar el soporte económico de 10 becas para igual cantidad de estudiantes meritorios.
En ambos casos, adicionalmente a la beca, que cubre el 100% de los gastos educativos, los becarios recibirán formación complementaria en educación financiera, en cultura digital, en emprendimiento y en habilidades blandas, con la finalidad de ayudarles a destacarse en el espacio laboral donde desarrollarán sus profesiones, así como a reafirmar su integridad y responsabilidad como ciudadanos.
Además, los becados del programa entran como pasantes a las diferentes filiales del Grupo Popular, pudiendo ser considerados para convertirse en empleados, en caso de existir vacantes.
Educación, pilar clave en la visión sostenible
La firma de ambos acuerdos estuvo encabezada por los ejecutivos de Grupo Popular, señores José Mármol, vicepresidente ejecutivo de Comunicaciones Corporativas, Reputación y Banca Responsable, y Mariel Bera, vicepresidenta de Relaciones Corporativas y Banca Responsable.
Representando a cada una de las universidades firmantes estuvieron sus rectores, el señor Omar Méndez Lluberes, del ITLA, y el padre José Rafael Núñez Mármol, del ITESIL.
A este respecto, el señor Mármol expresó que “la educación es un sector clave para nosotros. Estamos convencidos de que, solo con una educación de calidad, la República Dominicana podrá superar los desafíos del presente y del futuro”.

Excelencia Popular ha beneficiado a cientos de jóvenes dominicanos, otorgándoles la posibilidad de estudiar en instituciones educativas de excelencia y formándolos en principios y valores que les permiten ser referentes en su vida profesional y personal.
Con las nuevas becas, el programa alcanzará los 270 becados; en tanto, ya cuenta con más de 288 egresados, que siguen vinculados a Excelencia Popular con diplomados de emprendimiento y otras iniciativas.
