Chanel Rosa no descartó que en el país se pudiera producir un colapso del sistema hospitalario como consecuencia del impacto de la pandemia del coronavirus.
Chanel Rosa Chupany sostuvo que en la actualidad la infraestructura sanitaria del país no está colapsada, pero no se atreve asegurar que tal cosa no pueda llegar a suceder.
Rosa Chupany explicó que eso no depende del Servicio Nacional de Salud, sino de cómo se pueda controlar la cantidad de casos de coronavirus, pero principalmente de los casos de pacientes graves.
Entrevistado por Héctor Herrera Cabral en el programa D´AGENDA que cada domingo se difunde por Telesistema Canal 11, el alto funcionario del sector salud sostuvo que la clave tiene que ser que comience a bajar la curva de contagios, sobre todo aquellos en los que los pacientes presentan síntomas graves.
Agregó que, si observa lo que ha sucedido en otros países, ese es el tema que le ha dado con mayor fortaleza a los sistemas sanitarios de esas naciones.
“Pero eso depende mucho de políticas públicas sanitarias, y políticas públicas que no son sanitarias, y sobre todo depende de la actitud que tomemos todos nosotros como ciudadanos”, aclaró el responsable del sistema hospitalario público de la República Dominicana.
Reiteró que si se llega a producir un gran aumento de los casos graves de contagios del COVID-19, el sistema hospitalario puede colapsar.
“No, no está colapsado, ahora bien, lo que yo no te puedo asegurar que eso pueda pasar en alguna vez, por qué, porque eso no depende del Servicio Nacional de Salud, eso depende de cómo nosotros podamos controlar la cantidad de casos, sobre todo de los casos graves”, insistió Chanel Rosa.
El funcionario aclaró que en las últimas semanas han incrementado la cantidad de Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos para tratar de hacerle frente a las demandas que se han producido en ese sentido.
En tal virtud el director del Servicio Nacional de Salud aclaró que no todas las personas que mueren como consecuencia del coronavirus han estado en las unidades de terapias intensivas.
“Ese es un tema en el que yo he insistido bastante, es que en muchos casos las personas se deterioran bastante en el hogar, por cualquier razón, hemos tenido pacientes, en muchísimas oportunidades, que han llegado desde su casa a una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos”, subrayó.
Explicó que, en esos casos, la oportunidad que los médicos tienen de revertir esa situación se hace bastante difícil.
Chanel Rosa Chupany informó que en la actualidad el servicio Nacional de Salud dispone de 2,500 camas y 283 Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos solo para pacientes del coronavirus, sin mencionar las disponibilidades de los centros de salud privados.
“Gestionar esta pandemia no ha sido fácil, nosotros lamentablemente tuvimos un tema en contra que fue, que en medio de la misma, que tuvimos varios procesos electorales, en febrero, marzo y el de mayo que se pospuso para julio”, recordó el funcionario.
Chanel agregó que eso dificultó bastante en la adopción de algunas medidas, porque en tiempos electorales las cosas se ven distintas a como se perciben en periodos normales.
Agregó que otra dificultad que tuvieron fue que a raíz de la pandemia, una gran cantidad de profesionales del sector salud tuvo que salir de servicio que tenían comorbilidad que hacían más riesgosos continuar en sus labores, y se tuvo que nombrar más de 6,000 profesionales entre ellos médicos, enfermeras y bionalístas para hacerle frente al coronavirus.
“Creo que hemos tenido una debilidad que no es nuestra, es lo que tiene que ver con el tema de las pruebas que ha habido dificultades para conseguirlas a tiempo”, reconoció.
El director del Servicio Nacional de Salud explicó que también han confrontado dificultades con el aislamiento de los pacientes, porque las autoridades municipales de determinadas comunidades repudiaban a las autoridades de salud cuando intentaban abrir un centro para pacientes de COVID.
Se queja que, además, hay una parte de la población que no respeta el toque de queda, ni el distanciamiento social, y también han tendido semanas con dificultades con el número de camas para atender la demanda de pacientes que necesitan ser ingresados.
El director del Servicio Nacional de Salud Chanel Rosa Chupani lamenta que en la República Dominicana haya un déficit importante de médicos intensivistas.
Dice que por eso se hace tan difícil abrir una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, porque tiene que haber una selección de un personal de salud altamente calificado.
“Yo creo que nos queda como lección de esta pandemia que debemos incrementar la residencia de médicos intensivistas porque tenemos muy poco, y nosotros no podemos abrir una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos con 5, 6 o diez camas más”, afirmó.
Dijo que recientemente abrieron 36 camas en cuidados intensivos en la Ciudad Sanitaria, más 40 que hay en CECANOT son 76, pero eso implica disponer de un personal, pero muchas veces se agotan porque hacen varios turnos al día, tanto de enfermeras, médicos e intensivistas.
Dijo que tanto las actuales autoridades como las que se instalarán el próximo domingo tienen la disposición de que la situación del coronavirus mejore, pero la actitud de la población es determinante para que tal cosa suceda.
En otro orden, el director del SNS aclaró que no se puede aplicar una cuarentena total obligatoria porque ese es un concepto para países de clase media, y por tal motivo en América Latina ha sido muy difícil la aplicación de ese tipo de medida.
Chanel Rosa también saludó la disposición del próximo presidente Luis Abinader de crear un gabinete de salud que presidirá la vicepresidenta Raquel Peña, debido a que en el sector interactúan muchas instituciones que a veces pueden entrar en contradicciones sobre el manejo de un determinado aspecto.
