Santo Domingo. -El director general de la Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD), ingeniero Felipe Suberví, anunció los planes que tiene la institución en procura de fortalecer el suministro de agua potable para la población, al encabezar un acto por motivo de la celebración del Día Mundial del Agua, celebeado este 22 de marzo
Dentro de estas ejecutorias para optimizar el servicio del preciado líquido a la ciudadanía, el ingeniero Suberví destacó que están inmersos en un arduo trabajo de mantenimiento de las redes de distribución, detección y control de fugas, rehabilitación de los sistemas de producción, macro y micro medición de agua potable, así como el continuo almacenamiento de este fluido vital y la creación de más depósitos para preservarlo, sobre todo, en temporadas de lluvias.
El director de la CAASD también resaltó la nueva campaña “Todos Somos Vigilantes del Agua”, que tiene por finalidad concienciar a las personas sobre la importancia de usa racionalmente el suministro que reciben en sus hogares.
“Nuestro mayor reto es satisfacer las necesidades de la población y garantizar el acceso al agua potable en el Gran Santo Domingo. En este sentido, nuestros planes vienen de la mano de tres aspectos principales: escasez hídrica, presión demográfica y cambio climático”, detalló Suberví.
“Debemos amar y cuidar el agua, es limitada y, hoy más que nunca, no podemos darnos el lujo de desperdiciarla”, manifestó el funcionario al resaltar el valor de este recurso en la celebración la emblemática fecha.
Actividades por la Semana del Agua
Junto a la Cooperación Española y el Gabinete del Agua, el ingeniero Felipe Suberví encabeza una serie de actividades durante toda la semana, que buscan promover la importancia de este recurso para el desarrollo nacional.
Las jornadas por la Semana del Agua se realizarán del 22 al 26 del presente mes en lugares que históricamente han representado un avance en el desarrollo del recurso agua en el Gran Santo Domingo.
El director de la CAASD afirmó que la “Ruta Turística del Agua”, cuyo inicio encabezó este lunes, se trata de un recorrido por el histórico alcantarillado pluvial en la calle La Atarazana de la Ciudad Colonial.
La celebración incluye la presentación de dos instalaciones en los restos arqueológicos del lugar conocido como La Noria y de la antigua Fuente de San Diego. Ambos restos forman parte del primer alcantarillado y sistema de canalización de agua potable diseñado y construido en América con base en la experiencia española, muy influenciada por la cultura del agua árabe, indicó el funcionario.
También detalló que las actividades se realizarán en cumplimiento estricto de todas las medidas de prevención ante la pandemia del COVID-19 y con la colaboración de otras instituciones.
Durante el inicio de la celebración de la Semana del Agua, el director de la CAASD estuvo de acompañado de la alcaldesa del Distrito Nacional, Carolina Mejía, el director ejecutivo del Gabinete del Sector Agua, Gilberto Reynoso Sánchez, el embajador de España en República Dominicana, Alejandro Abellán García de Diego, y otros importantes funcionarios.
También estuvieron presentes los representantes en el país del Banco Mundial, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO), del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BDI), la Cooperación Japonesa, entre otras personalidades.
Sobre el Día Mundial del Agua
El Día Mundial del Agua se celebra cada 22 de marzo para recordar la importancia de este recurso tan esencial.
A pesar de que todas las actividades sociales y económicas dependen en gran medida del abastecimiento de agua dulce y su calidad, 2 mil 200 millones de personas viven sin acceso al agua potable, de acuerdo a informaciones de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas.
Esta celebración tiene por objetivo concienciar sobre la crisis mundial del líquido y la necesidad de medidas que permitan alcanzar el Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible Número 6: Agua y saneamiento para todos antes de 2030.
