 1 de Agosto de 1914 Alemania declara la Guerra a Rusia. La Primera guerra Mundial o Gran Guerra comenzó el 28 de Julio de 1914 y acabó el 11 de Noviembre de 1918. Durante ese período más de 10 millones de personas perderían la vida.

La Primera Guerra Mundial se inició el 28 de Julio del 1914, cuando el Imperio Austrohúngaro decidió invadir Serbia. Un mes después de que el sobrino del emperador de Austro-Hungría, Francisco Fernando muriera en un atentado en Sarajevo.

La declaración de Guerra de Alemania a Rusia, respondía a Rusia tras el decreto de defensa de Serbia para intimidar a Austro-Hungría. El Zar Nicolas II era primo de Guillermo II, Kaiser de Alemania, pero no dudaron ni un segundo en ir a las armas. Ambos pensaban que sería un conflicto de pocas semanas. Pero finalmente, se convirtió en una catástrofe que se prolongó en el tiempo, más de 4 años.

El Kaiser de Alemania tenía el convencimiento de que su otro primo, Jorge V. Monarca y emperador de la Gran Bretaña, se iba a mantener neutral. Pero el embajador del Kaiser en Londres no debió entender el mensaje. En el que aseguraba que Gran Bretaña no entraría en el conflicto. Pues Gran Bretaña era aliado de Francia y no se podía quedar de brazos cruzados mientras Alemania aplastaba al país galo.

Los intereses expansivos y coloniales de los países que participaron la Primera Guerra Mundial. Fue otro de los motivos que hizo el conflicto se extendiera globalmente. Unos para protegerlos como es el caso de Francia y la Gran Bretaña y otro deseosos de expandirlos como es el caso del imperio Alemán. Que finalmente sería la nación más damnificada de la Gran Guerra.
