Santo Domingo.- El Ministerio de Educación de República Dominicana (MINERD), a través de la Dirección General de Educación Especial, recibirá el apoyo de la fundación Smiles For Speech, para capacitar a maestros de educación especial, con el objetivo de apoyar a los niños con discapacidad del habla.
Lucía Vásquez, directora de Educación Especial del MINERD, acogió la visita en el Centro de Recursos para la Discapacidad Olga Estrella de Sandy Dorsey, presidenta y fundadora de Smiles For Speech, y Mara Ramírez de Arbaje, asesora del programa Supérate, quien sirvió de intermediaria para esta alianza.
Vásquez dijo que, desde hace dos años, el Ministerio junto a Mara Ramírez vienen apoyando a los estudiantes con discapacidades, y como parte de su trabajo de colaboración para brindar oportunidades a los niños en condiciones de vulnerabilidad en el país, trajo al país al equipo de voluntarios de la fundación.
En tanto que, Mara Ramírez dijo que este programa de capacitación es un sueño hecho realidad, a la vez que expresó que se deben unir voluntades para que todos los maestros sean entrenados de manera permanente, ya sea presencial o virtual, para que adquieran las competencias para trabajar con estos niños.
“Estamos muy agradecidos con esta alianza que favorecerá, no solo a los niños con discapacidad, sino también a aquellos de las secciones rurales de extrema pobreza, que es también la meta de Supérate”, manifestó Ramírez.
Sandy Dorsey, patóloga del lenguaje, y quien ha trabajado por más de 25 años en el área de terapia del habla, dijo que se motivó a cooperar con los niños dominicanos con problemas del habla tras su contacto, por más de 15 años, con la comunidad dominicana en Washington Heights.
Expresó que la Fundación Smiles For Speech fue creada con el fin de que los niños sin recursos puedan alcanzar las enseñanzas y herramientas que necesitan para comunicarse. “Es un gran honor estar aquí, junto al equipo que tardó años preparándose para poder dar el apoyo necesario a los niños en condiciones de vulnerabilidad”.
La Fundación Smiles For Speech realizó una donación de materiales didácticos y educativos para terapia del habla que beneficiarán a niños de educación especial.
