Presidente Abinader le advierte a Haití que Gobierno responderá si no detiene construcción de canal

SANTO DOMINGO.- Luis Abinader, presidente de la Republica, afirmó que la construcción del canal en el río Masacre fue una acción arbitraria y “unilateral” del Gobierno haitiano.

Abinader dijo confiar en que las autoridades de ese país tendrán una “actitud sensata” y detendrán la obra en los próximos días.

“Estamos confiados en que ellos van a tener una actitud sensata y van a detener el canal. Si en los próximos días no lo detienen, ustedes van a ver una respuesta del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y del Gobierno”, dijo en una entrevista concedida al periódico El Nuevo Diario en el Palacio Nacional.

El mandatario se quejó de que Haití dio inicio a la obra sin informarle a las autoridades dominicanas, a pesar de que hay un acuerdo sobre manejo hídrico en la frontera.

“Realmente nosotros queremos, primero, que ellos detengan la construcción del canal, y, después que la detengan, podemos hablar de todo un manejo combinado y eficiente de los recursos hídricos de la frontera. Pero tienen que detener esa construcción del canal, ese es nuestro requerimiento”, expresó Abinader.

Abinader aseguró que el país solo retomará las discusiones bilaterales cuando Haití haya anunciado la detención del canal.

“No podemos permitir que un río como el Masacre, que principalmente nace en la República Dominicana, sea intervenido sin ninguna opinión de la República Dominicana. Eso sencillamente es inaceptable para nosotros”, manifestó.

Cooperación recíproca

El jefe de gobierno destacó que, por primera vez, en los consulados de Haití en el país se le está entregando cédulas haitianas a ciudadanos de esa nación.

Igualmente Abinader, sostuvo que la verja perimetral que se levanta en la frontera ayudará a Haití a recaudar más impuestos aduanales, y señaló que ha habido colaboración mutua frente al crimen organizado y el tema migratorio.

El único obstáculo en las relaciones domínico-haitianas es el establecimiento del canal para desviar las aguas del Masacre a favor de Haití.

El presidente Abinader definió como “excelentes” las relaciones dominicanas con Estados Unidos y China, y destacó que se han comprado vacunas chinas gracias a que ese país autorizó el despacho de las dosis anticovid”.
